Toripalimab, marketed as Tuoyi in China and Loqtorzi in the US, is a next-generation anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody developed by Shanghai Junshi Biosciences. This innovative immunotherapy blocks PD-L1 binding to PD-1 at a unique site, effectively activating antitumor immunity.
Since its conditional approval in China for second-line melanoma treatment in December 2018, Toripalimab has expanded its indications to include nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and urothelial carcinoma. In a significant milestone, the US FDA approved Toripalimab (Loqtorzi) in October 2023 for first-line treatment of metastatic or recurrent locally advanced NPC in combination with chemotherapy, and as monotherapy for later-line treatment.
This approval marks Toripalimab as the first immunotherapy drug approved for NPC treatment, highlighting its groundbreaking role in oncology. Its success demonstrates the growing impact of Chinese-developed immunotherapies in the global market.
