Novel Adenovirus Gene in Placental Insufficiency

Release Date: 29-Nov-2020

Decreased uterine blood flow and lack of bioavailable VEGF due to placental insufficiency is the major cause of fetal growth restriction. The disease is incurable and causes serious neonatal morbidity and death. A recent study identified an adenovirus gene therapy vector carrying VEGF isoform can improve the uterine blood flow in placental insufficiency. Researchers at UCL institute have evaluated different VEGF isoforms on endothelial cells from four species, including from human umbilical vein. The results have shown the use of the best performing VEGF isoform "in a human clinical trial for FGR caused by placental insufficiency
