Penpulimab, marketed as Anniko, is an innovative monoclonal antibody targeting the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) receptor. Developed through a collaboration between Akeso and Chia Tai Tianqing, this immunotherapy has made significant strides in cancer treatment. In August 2021, it received its first approval in China for treating adult patients with relapsed or refractory classic Hodgkin’s lymphoma who had undergone at least second-line chemotherapy.
Since its initial approval, Penpulimab’s indications have expanded to include first-line treatment of locally advanced or metastatic squamous non-small cell lung cancer and third-line treatment of metastatic nasopharyngeal cancer. The drug’s potential extends further, with ongoing clinical trials in liver and gastric cancers being conducted in China and Australia. Additionally, a marketing application for its use in first-line treatment of metastatic nasopharyngeal cancer has been submitted in China, showcasing its promising future in oncology.
